Gon's Group Defines Hunter x Hunter
Hunter x Hunter Features Some of the Best Anime Villains
Hunter x Hunter's Supporting Cast Fleshes Out the World
Like many long-running shonen anime, Hunter x Hunter has an absolutely massive cast. These characters range from being world-famous, like Gon and Killua, to somewhat more obscure, like Chrollo and Meruem, to the extremely minor, like Tonpa and Zepile. One of the core themes of the series is about how everyone's journey matters, and so nearly every character, no matter how unimportant, receives some degree of development.
Because HxH has been adapted into two anime series with different casts, there are even more voice actors connected to the series than there are characters, and nearly every performer succeeds in perfectly bringing their character to life. Hunter x Hunter is among the most iconic shonen anime, and its success is largely owed to its amazing characters and brilliant cast.

10 Hunter X Hunter Characters Who Could Defeat Goku
Goku has the power of gods, but he can't beat the greatest Nen masters of Hunter X Hunter.
Gon Freecss is the main protagonist of Hunter x Hunter. He is a young, naive and adventurous boy with enormous potential for strength who sets out on a journey to become a Hunter and find his father. While earning his Hunter License, Gon befriends Killua, Kurapika and Leorio.
Over the course of the series, Gon grows stronger, learning Nen and developing his hatsu. He defeats several powerful villains, and the Chimera Ant crisis entirely breaks his mental state. The death of Kite brings out Gon's dark side, which he ultimately pays for, as he survives the experience but without his Nen. Gon now sits at home on Whale Island, resuming normal studies.
Killua Zoldyck is the deuteragonist of Hunter x Hunter. The most prodigious child in a family of infamous assassins, he is an experienced and remorseless killer but also a normal, goofy kid. During the Hunter Exam, Killua attaches himself to Gon as his first friend and devotes himself entirely to him.
Killua learns Nen alongside Gon and helps train to fight Hisoka, survive the Phantom Troupe and win Greed Island. During the Chimera Ant arc, Killua rids himself of the brainwashing done to him by his older brother, Illumi, both for himself and so he can better protect Gon. This causes Killua to be especially hurt when it becomes clear that Gon doesn't care about him like he cares about Gon. Killua saves Gon after his body becomes mutilated but parts ways with him afterward, finding a new purpose in protecting his younger sister, Alluka.
Kurapika Kurta is the current protagonist of Hunter x Hunter. As a child, Kurapika's people, the Kurta Clan, were massacred by the Phantom Troupe for their scarlet eyes. Kurapika swore revenge. On his path toward vengeance, Kurapika took the Hunter Exam, where he befriended Gon, Killua and Leorio.
After learning Nen, hyperspecializing in killing the Phantom Troupe, Kurapika battled against his sworn nemeses in Yorknew City, only to realize the futility of revenge. Kurapika continued working with the mafia to collect the scarlet eyes of his people. The Hunter Association later recruited him to become a Zodiac and join the expedition to the Dark Continent. He is now a bodyguard for Queen Oito Hui Guo Rou and her son.
Leorio Paradinight is a major supporting character in Hunter x Hunter. His childhood friend died because he couldn't afford medical care, making Leorio obsessed with money and passionate about becoming a doctor who could help those in need. Before returning to his medical studies, Leorio befriended Gon, Killua and Kurapika during the Hunter Exam. He helped his friends during their conflict with the Phantom Troupe, participated in the Hunter Association Chairman Election, and was subsequently added to the ranks of the Zodiacs, continuing his medical training on the Black Whale under Cheadle.

Hunter x Hunter: Every Nen Form Explained
Hunter X Hunter's power system consists of six Forms of Nen Aura, each of which dictates the kind of ability the user is naturally proficient with.
Hisoka Morrow is the most prominent villain in Hunter x Hunter, featuring in nearly every arc. Full of lustful cruelty, Hisoka lives for the thrill of fighting and destroying strong opponents. He took an interest in Gon's potential when they met during the Hunter Exam. Hisoka was further impressed with Gon after he was able to hit him during their fight in Heaven's Arena, but his priority remained fighting Chrollo Lucilfer.
To make his fight with Chrollo, one of the strongest Nen masters in the world, happen, Hisoka manipulated the events of the Yorknew City arc and helped to restore Chrollo's Nen during the Greed Island arc for this singular purpose. When the fight between the two finally came, Chrollo killed Hisoka, but Hisoka's Nen after death revived him. Hisoka proved himself to be a sore loser and made killing every member of the Phantom Troupe his new goal.
Illumi Zoldyck is the oldest of the Zoldyck siblings and the main ongoing antagonist to Killua. Illumi is cold-hearted and completely loyal to his family and to his trade, taking great delight in controlling Killua. He followed his younger brother into the Hunter Exam and forced him to kill a man and quit before he passed. When Killua rescued Alluka from their family, Illumi did everything in his power to capture them and bring them home, but he failed. Illumi now acts as a member of the Phantom Troupe.
Chrollo Lucilfer is the leader of the Phantom Troupe, the main antagonist of the Yorknew City arc, and the deuteragonist of the Succession Contest arc. Chrollo was once a kind, innocent boy, but the freedom with which people could act cruelly against the people of his hometown, Meteor City, drove him to become one of the world's most feared villains. He and his friends spread terror throughout the world so that no one ever hurts Meteor City again.
Chrollo is among the most powerful and most intelligent Nen users in the world. After having his Nen taken away by Kurapika, his team found an exorcist to restore it for him. He battled and defeated Hisoka in Heaven's Arena, unknowingly setting off a chain of events that would result in the deaths of his friends, Shalnark and Kortopi. Chrollo now hunts Hisoka aboard The Black Whale, seeking revenge.
Genthru, aka The Bomber, is the main antagonist of the Greed Island arc. Genthru is a ruthless, mass-murdering villain whose only redeeming quality is his care for his partners in crime. Genthru entered Greed Island in order to win the fabulous prize and attempted to claim victory by killing all of his opposition. Genthru came close to succeeding, but he was beaten and stopped by Gon.
Neferpitou is a Chimera Ant royal guard and the main antagonist to Gon in the Chimera Ant arc. Endlessly loyal to their king, Neferpitou was a cruel monster. They had the curiosity of cat, particularly when it came to their own strength, leading to them testing themselves against Kite, eventually killing him.
When Gon came to take his revenge, Neferpitou had changed, having developed compassion because of their desire to protect Komugi for Meruem. Neferpitou led Gon away from her, but when they couldn't bring Kite back, Gon's mind shattered, and he sacrificed all of his future potential in order to be able to kill the royal guard.
Meruem is the Chimera Ant king and the main antagonist of the Chimera Ant arc. The strongest character in the series from birth, Meruem was narcissistic, seeing himself as a god. He planned to take over the world and reduce humanity to food for Chimera Ants. Meruem's life changed forever when, time after time, he failed to defeat Komugi at Gungi.
Meruem and Komugi bonded, allowing Meruem to gain an appreciation for humanity. While he still wished to subjugate humans, he no longer wished to see them all dead or oppressed. This was not good enough for Isaac Netero, who took his own life using the Poor Man's Rose, infecting Meruem with radiation. As Meruem died from the poisoning, he spent his final moments playing one last game of Gungi with Komugi.
Pariston Hill is the former Vice Chairman of the Hunter Association and the main antagonist of the 13th Hunter Association Chairman Election arc. A master politician only out for himself, Netero gave him his position because he wanted someone who would challenge him.
After trolling Cheadle by beating her in the Hunter Association Chairman Election, only to immediately quit and give her the job, Pariston joined the Dark Continent Expedition Team for his next scheme. Pariston is Ging Freecss's rival, who is wary of what he's planning because of the army of Chimera Ants in his possession.

Hunter X Hunter's Dark Continent Arc Needs a New Protagonist
Kurapika has been the protagonist of Hunter X Hunter for the past two arcs, but The Dark Continent Arc needs a new lead.
Isaac Netero is the former Chairman of the Hunter Association. A fun-loving and boisterous old man but also callous and cruel, he was the strongest Nen master in the world at his peak. Netero oversaw the Hunter Exam, in which Gon and his friends participated, and later met Gon again during the Chimera Ant crisis. Netero attempted to fight Meruem, but he was no match for the Chimera Ant king and was forced to blow himself up with the Poor Man's Rose to inflict Meruem with radiation poisoning.
Komugi is the former Gungi world champion. A sickly and stupid young woman, she was also deeply kind and a genius at the game of Gungi. When Meruem called upon her so that he could beat her at her own game, she had more fun than she'd ever had before playing against an opponent who was constantly thinking of new ways to try and counter her. Komugi and Meruem became friends, and she helped him learn to be a better person. The two spent their final moments together, playing Gungi and dying of radiation poisoning, as Komugi refused to leave her best friend's side.
Biscuit Krueger, aka Bisky, is Gon and Killua's primary mentor. Bisky is shallow and vain but also a Double-Star Stone Hunter and a former student of Netero. Hating her natural, older, more masculine appearance, Bisky uses Nen to present herself as a cute young woman.
After meeting Gon and Killua inside Greed Island, she initially intended to destroy the boys' relationship for laughs, but they quickly grew on her, and she became their Nen master. Together, the three won Greed Island. Bisky continued Gon and Killua's training during the Chimera Ant arc so that they could become strong enough to join the Chimera Ant Extermination Team. She currently works as a part of Kurapika's team aboard The Black Whale.
Kite acted as Gon and Killua's mentor throughout the Chimera Ant arc. The cool-headed apprentice of Ging Freeccs, Kite's job was primarily conducting ecological surveys with his team. This, however, led him into conflict with the Chimera Ants. He cared deeply for Gon and died protecting him from Neferpitou. Kite was later resurrected not only as a Chimera Ant but also as a woman resembling Colt's younger sister, Reina.
Morel Mackernasey was the leader of the Chimera Ant Extermination Team. A Single-Star Sea Hunter and the master of Knuckle and Shoot, Morel is a genius who fights with his brain, not his fists. During the battle against the Chimera Ants, he defeated Leol and Cheetu and did his best against Menthuthuyou and Shiapouf. He later used his connections to try and get Gon the medical help he required following his fight with Neferpitou, and he now serves as the captain of The Black Whale.
Alluka Zoldyck is Killua's younger sister. She is the only member of her family who has not been trained as an assassin because her parents fear her. This fear stems from her sharing her body with Nanika, a being from the Dark Continent capable of granting any wish at a high cost.
Alluka spent her life locked in her room until she was broken free by Killua. Following the Chimera Ant arc, Alluka healed Gon's wounds, and Killua made it his new mission in life to keep her safe. Alluka is sweet and friendly, although not very smart and a bit of a brat. She is also among the most notable trans characters in anime, as shown in how only heroic characters, such as Killua, properly refer to her as a girl.
Ging Freecss is the father of Gon Freecss. Gon spent the majority of the series searching for Ging. Ging is a member of the Zodiacs and one of the five great Nen users in the world, but he is anything but respected. The hatred his peers have for him is to the extent that they all applauded when Leorio knocked him out during the 13th Hunter Association Chairman Election and began giving their votes for Chairman to Leorio.
Ging is a rude, selfish, deadbeat father, but he has his redeeming points. He participated in the Chairman election for the sole purpose of stopping Pariston from winning, as he knew he couldn't be trusted with that power. He has pursued Pariston onto The Black Whale for similar reasons, aiming to stop whatever he's planning on the Dark Continent. Ging has been shown to care for Gon to some extent and provides him with valuable words of wisdom when they finally meet.
